I wonder if there is a way to stop wordpress from expressing it’s regular informal greeting. My Home page offers a cheery ‘Howdy’ every time I open it up. I am not sure why the techies at wordpress chose this oddly colloquial greeting, normally reserved for Cowboys I believe. I can’t recall anyone in real life ever saying ‘Howdy’ to me in all seriousness. Occasionally someone might say Howdy doody! which is altogether overly cheery and frankly ridiculous.
What’s wrong with Hello, too conservative? Does everyone outside of the North West of England use Howdy like it’s going out of fashion? (I think it is out of fashion, see my Cowboy comment). I could see this being popular in Texas but I don’t even have a hat to tip as I respond.
Having said all that I doubt the rest of the wordpress community would appreciate the sullen understated ‘Alreet’ that you may get from a trusted friend in the North. In most cases it would probably just be a nod of the head, which I appreciate is difficult to translate to a website. But would it hurt to have some options to your opening greeting that fits with your locality?
Cue all the people telling me you can actually change the greeting and I just haven’t worked out how to do it. Probably no one else really cares. Still, I work through my petit annoyances each day, I am not actually that bothered, but it is a curiosity of the platform!
