Top Ten Movies

I put together a list of my top ten films. I honestly can’t put these in any particular order, they are all great films in my opinion. I have included my favourite line from each of those films for a bit of context. I think as a writer the scripting is what draws me to revisit a film in the first place. The first of these is infinitely quotable. In case you haven’t seen it, the basic premise is that two out of work actors go on holiday to the Lake district by mistake. It’s very funny.

Withnail and I

‘I’ve some extremely distressing news. We’ve just run out of wine’

Shaun of the dead

Kill Phil – “Sorry.” – grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How’s that for a slice of fried gold?

Hot Fuzz

“Have You Ever Fired Your Gun Up In The Air And Gone, ‘Aaargh!

Goodfellas

“I’m funny how? Like a clown? Do I amuse you?”

Inglorious Basterds

The Goonies

‘Don’t say that, never say that, Goonies never say die’

The Green Mile

Little Big Man

This boy is no longer a boy. He’s a brave. He is little in body, but his heart is big. His name shall be “Little Big Man.”

Aliens

Ferris Buller’s day off

I know there are hundreds of great films out there and definitely will be thinking of many more today that I haven’t included. Just put these down as films I would watch again and again (already thinking of Fargo, oh no). Do any of these feature in your top ten? The more you think about it the more films pop into your head. Realising now I have completely ignored all of Star Wars, Indiana Jones and The Matrix. I purposefully have left of the Harry Potter films. It’s not that I hate them, it’s just I feel like I end up watching the same scene from the same film every time they are on. I still don’t think I have an idea of how it ends, guessing the good guys win.

Lord of the Rings, oh no – can I have a top 50 instead?

So many more I could have included. They were the ones that immediately sprang to mind.
